Settling Sa (Sa lagana)

Every riyaz begins by placing Sa against the tanpura until it is perfectly still and in tune. Every other swara is measured from this one.

How to do it

  1. Listen to the tanpura for a few cycles.
  2. Sing Sa on an open "aa", softly, and hold it.
  3. Adjust until the sound melts into the drone. No vibrato.

Remember Melt into the drone.
