Kharaj: the lower octave
Kharaj riyaz is slow, sustained singing in the lower octave (mandra saptak). It builds depth and steadiness that carry into every other register.
How to do it
- From Sa down to mandra Pa, slowly, on "aa".
- Never force the low notes; if one will not come, stop just above it.
- Back up to Sa and hold.
Remember Low and slow, never forced.
Take care Do not push below where the voice speaks easily.
